I had so much fun exploring intermediate and advanced features of Leaflet and Mapbox with this responsive and user-friendly project for the People’s Emergency Center!
Locations could be assigned multiple categories and eras; they could also be assigned to a special group called the New Freedom Tour. This was not my first mapping project and I was comfortable assigning custom markers to locations, so I was just extending my knowledge of LayerGroups and FeatureGroups – when and how to use each to get the map to display the right data, as well as how to set bounds. The thrill of seeing the right set of “dots” display on the map never goes away!
I was the lead developer on this project, but I worked with the project team to identify the data integration tool. We selected the WordPress REST API, which made it very easy for the client to add new locations to the map. There was a learning curve to be sure, but I have used the WP REST API on other projects, so it was totally worthwhile.
